The Porzuna Archaeological Museum has increased its attractiveness by incorporating the 'Geoparks Corner' into its exhibition area, a space where information on the history and formation of the Cerro Santo Volcano is displayed, as well as its geological importance. The technicians of the Scientific Committee of the 'Calatrava Volcanoes Geopark' project, Rafael Becerra and Rafael Gosalvez, visited Porzuna yesterday to evaluate this space that will be inaugurated on Saturday, June 16, coinciding with the Corpus Christi weekend. During the visit, they were accompanied by Lithuania Mobile Number List the Councilor for Tourism, Ángel Luis Rojas; the president of the Association of Friends of the Porzuna Archaeological Museum, Godofredo Úbeda; and tourism technician Jessica Sánchez. Located on the second floor of the Museum, the 'Geoparks Corner' has three explanatory panels on the Geological History of Porzuna, the volcanism of Campo de Calatrava and the Geoparks project. They offer information about the Cerro Santo volcano, its age and how this volcano, declared a Natural Monument, was formed. Likewise, they talk about volcanoes in general and from a window you can see the Volcano, while reading information about it. The Geopark Corner is completed with a sample of real material from volcanoes such as volcanic rock, slate, quartzite, cinnabar, pyroclasts and lapilli.
Rojas thanked the Friends of the Archaeological Museum Association and its president, “because he was the brain behind the creation of this specific corner to highlight our volcano, which has been carried out with the collaboration of the City Council and under the supervision and help of the Scientific Committee of the Calatrava Volcanoes Geopark project.” Rojas has highlighted that the Calatrava Volcanoes Geopark project, to which Porzuna belongs, encompasses a network of places of geological importance that also have sites of ethnographic, ecological, cultural or special importance. For this reason, the Porzuna City Council, in collaboration with the Hiking Association chaired by Paco Jiménez, is developing tourist routes to visit different points of interest in the town in addition to the volcano. "We want the visitor to be able to learn about the multiple tourist resources that Porzuna has, its gastronomy, its culture, its history and its natural and archaeological heritage, because our town is very attractive on a tourist level and can become even more so and make that this sector generates wealth and employment,” emphasizes Rojas. European Geoparks Week On the other hand, coinciding with the European Geoparks Week, Geopark Volcanes de Calatrava and the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real have organized different activities to get to know the volcanoes throughout the province.
